Sewing: Jacket With Lace Trim

This article is designed to provide a bit of inspiration.

The project started when my mother discovered somewhere (in a store, in a garage sale, whatever!) an interesting collection of lace motifs.

On this jacket, the motifs are strung along a nylon cord, which is couched in place. The lace motifs are lighty tacked in place, but generally are allowed to flap in the breeze, so to speak.

The strand of lace and cord begins and ends at the pockets, and meanders through the front and over the shoulders to the upper back.

This is a subtle form of wearable art, and I had no problem wearing it to the office.

I just love wearing something that is absolutely unique!

Here is an excellent book on making jackets to fit you. It is from the Palmer/Pletsch folks (I am a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor, and I've studied Fit under one of the authors).
